Ministry salutes Agbeko

Accra, Oct. 2, Ghanadot/GNA - The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports has congratulated Joseph "King Kong" Agbeko for winning the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Bantamweight title.


Prof. Dominic Fobih, the sector on behalf of the Government and people of Ghana congratulated IBF world champion for his exploits and for making the country proud in the boxing arena.


The statement signed on behalf of the sector minister by Dr. Emmanuel Owusu Ansah, Director, Sports Development copied to the GNA Sports said the achievement of Agbeko has brought new life into professional boxing, as it will spur on other boxers to strive for the ultimate.


It expressed the hope that Joshua Clottey who is scheduled to fight for an IBF World Welterweight title in December will be motivated by the feat to give the nation the second world title in 2007.


The statement urged Agbeko to remain focused, disciplined and dedicated saying "it is difficult to get to the top but even more difficult to stay there".


It said the ministry would organise a heroic welcome for the boxer on his arrival.
