Pele gets new FIFA job

Accra, March 20, Ghanadot - FIFA, the world football
governing body has nominated Ghana legend, Abedi Pele, to
work on the technical committee for the Confederations Cup
tournament in South Africa in June.
Taking place from 14-28 June
2009, this year's edition of the FIFA Confederations Cup
tournament features Spain, Italy, Brazil, New Zealand, Iraq,
USA, Egypt and hosts South Africa vying for the title of
‘champions of champions'.
"I have received the official letter and I am thinking about
it before accepting the offer," Abedi told some journalists.
"It is a tough task but I am happy to help in making this
successful not for myself but for the entire continent of
Africa."
This appointment is the second major one with FIFA and third
in world football affairs for the three-time African
Footballer of the Year .
Abedi’s duties will involve joining other technical brains
to analyse matches at the tournament that involves
continental champions.
Even though the 'Maestro' is yet to accept the offer, this
is a major boost for his image and future prospects within
FIFA.
He is also a member of the football committee of the game's
world governing body Fifa and an official ambassador for the
2010 World Cup.
The four stadiums in the South African host cities of
Johannesburg, Tshwane/Pretoria, Mangaung/Bloemfontein and
Rustenburg are virtually ready for action, as preparations
go into overdrive ahead of the tournament's opening match
between South Africa and Iraq at Ellis Park..
