NPP Conference -
Avoid utterances that breeds enmity - Amoah
Takoradi, Nov.24, GNA - Mr Anthony Evans Amoah,
Western Regional Minister on Friday asked
members and activists of the New Patriotic Party
(NPP) to avoid utterances and divisive
tendencies that breed enmity, rancour and hatred
and strategise to enable the party win the 2008
elections.
In addition, he said the Party's constitution
should be their guide on any action they would
pursue in its interest.
Mr Amoah made the call when addressing the
opening session of the Western Regional Annual
Delegates Conference of the Party in Takoradi.
He said "Let us expend our energies on
strategies towards the 2008 Elections rather
than deepening our internal wrangling. We should
also work towards resolving petty squabbles
among members."
Mr Amoah called on the people in the region to
disabuse their minds from the notion that
Western Region had not received a fair share of
the national cake, because many development
projects had been undertaken by the Government
within the past six years.
These included construction and rehabilitation
of schools, roads, health facilities, sanitation
and provision of potable water.
Others are the nearing completion of the
Tarkwa-Apimanim road and the 50-kilomtre
Sefwi-Wiawso-Benchima road.
Mr Amoah announced that Government had allocated
about 82 billion cedis to upgrade four Senior
Secondary schools in the region.
These are Shama, Wassa-Akropong, Sefwi-Wiawso
and Bedu Bonsu Senior Secondary schools.
He said about 20.9 billion cedis had been spent
on infrastructure development at the University
of Mines and Technology at Tarkwa.
Nana Owusu Ankomah, Western Regional Chairman of
NPP noted that the Party had been "plagued with
conflicts" in the region but was optimistic they
would be solved during the conference.
He said members of the Party in the region
should be proud of the Government's achievements
and direct their energies toward wining the 2008
elections.
Mr A. K. Sam, Western Regional Secretary of the
Party said many activities including seminars,
workshops and public education programmes would
be organised to showcase the success story of
NPP.
He commended Members of Parliament, District
Chief Executives and other leading members of
the party in the region for their support to
ensure successful implementation of government
programmes.
Mr Sam said efforts would be made to secure
permanent offices for all the constituencies to
enhance their operations.
Issues to be discussed at the conference would
include the Party's constitution, relations
between the Party and the Government and reports
from the constituencies.
Solidarity messages from Democratic Freedom
Party (DFP), National Democratic Congress (NDC)
and Convention Peoples Party (CPP) were read.
